Sotavento Big Band is a Jazz-Tango band formed in Buenos Aires 13 years ago, that recreates the golden age of swing and Argentine tango, (Astor Piazzolla foremost) in a musical project that mixes the melodic and rhythmic patterns of Tango with the harmonies and improvisation of Jazz. This new approach to Tango and Jazz has received an enthusiastic reaction both in Argentina as well as internationally. The music of SBB goes from the traditional tango to the music of Astor Piazzola in Big Band format without never abandoning the territory of jazz. The ensemble has the particularity of having replaced the trombones and trumpets by saxophones and clarinets, giving a very warm sound to the formation.
The orchestra shared the stage with numerous groups of high professional level of Argentina and Europe and became one of the most active Big Band at the Buenos Aires jazz scene. Between 14 and 31 August 2015 the orchestra made his first European Tour and in July 2017 the band is making his second tour of Europe performing in Switzerland, France, United Kingdom, Germany, Austria, Italy, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary.
