DJ SHARK - biography

The pioneer of Slovenian house scene, the first Slovenian house artists with released long player, the main face behind the first regional club culture magazine Invider, one of the House Nation radio program initiators, co-owner of Futuristing Music, the leading event promotion organization in the region, proud club culture ambassador, the man that gave name to Sharkastique Tunes, successful music publisher, internationally established deejay and producer, but foremost passionate worshipper of electronic dance culture - and little white golf balls. That and a lot more is Jaka Gornik alias DJ Shark or as he’s known to most of the local partysans and colleagues – the biggest fish in the house pond.

THE BEGINNING

Shark debuted as a deejay way back in 1995 - In Palma Club in Ljubljana, Slovenia. He soon took over Saturday nights as a promoter and resident deejay. In following years he acted as a resident in most of Slovenian house clubs and performed as a special guest star on several parties abroad (Austria, Italy, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, Hungary, Germany, Spain, USA, Lithuania and Hungary).

He started his studio career in 1997 by taking part in a technical team at the Kan Studio, where he composed a track for the Coca-Cola Company’s advertising campaign. He’s paid visit to Miami Winter Music Conference where his international career started. In ‘99 he produced two singles Sweet Love and Disco Harmony with a help of his longtime comrade and business partner Umek. Both were released on Pushpac records and included on El Divino Ibiza compilation mixed by Paul Johnson. On compilations promoted by Pushpac his music could be listened to alongside productions of artist such as DJ Skip, Paul Johnson, DJ Rhythm or David Duriez. Some other releases: First Time (Prima Facie), Disco Harmony (Flamingo Discos), Talk Box (Pushpac), Never Let It Go (Sharkastique Tunes), Afrotek (Earresistible Musick), Maximum Visibility (Sondos), Plug Out (Earresistible Musick), The Exit with Sylvain & Umek (Jesus Loved You), Hustle (S&S records) … Shark popped his Ibiza flower as an artist in 2000, performing at El Divino, and the next year he finally stepped behind the decks at the infamous Pacha.

SHARKASTIQUE TUNES

In the beginning of the new millennium Shark formed Sharkastique Tunes crew with his friends Jaka and Sylvain. The label of the same name was lunched with the intention topromote the quality Slovenian electronic music production. The first release Never Let It Go was produced by Shark and Umek, hidden behind the Kemu moniker. Some other track done by Sylvain, Jaka and Alex Long gained huge success in past years but it seems a release Call

Me by Shark, Sylvain and Lara Love topped them all. Namely, that record was a huge crossover hit in the whole region, the video was heavily rotated on MTV Adria. Shark’s Keep on Walking is scheduled for the next Sharkastique Tunes release.

PARTY DON

Shark is not only a great artist but also successful young businessman. He’s co-owner and CEO of one of the leading event-promotion companies in the region with half a dozen divisions specialized on different aspect of marketing and promotion. One of those, Futuristing Music, is dedicated to organization and promotion of high-quality mass indoor and outdoor events. It’s annual DiscoNautica summer festival, special blend of workshops, production competitions, artists gathering and beach party, attracted more than 100.000 partysans with its latest edition.
