On Friday 11 March 2016 at 8pm the Adelaide Irish Club starts its week of festivities with the annual Pint-Pulling Challenge. Each year a few lucky participants get taught the art of pulling a decent pint of Guinness. A team of esteemed judges (and let's face it - over experienced Guinness tasters!) test the pints pulled and choose a winner. Great craic and plenty of pints of the black stuff!
Saturday 12 March 2016 the annual St Patrick’s parade wends its way through the streets of Adelaide. Everyone is invited to come walk with or cheer the parade along. Assembling at St Mary’s in Grote Street at 9.30am for a 10am start the parade will follow Morphett, Gouger, King William and end at the Irish Club, 13-15 Carrington Street, at about 10.45am. Following the parade at the Irish Club join in the free family-friendly entertainment until til 2.30pm with a BBQ sausage sizzle.
The Gaelic Football and Hurling Association of South Australia hosts its day of finals matches at Sunday 13 March 2016 at St Mary’s Park, Laura Ave., St Mary’s. The day kicks off with the Junior Academy Exhibition Match at 1.30pm, 2:30pm Mens’ State League Final, 4:15pm Ladies’ State League Grand Final followed by music and entertainment in the GFHASA clubhouse till 10.30pm.
St Patrick’s Day itself, Thurs 17 March 2016, begins at the Irish Club from 11am with a fantastic day of entertainment. Throughout the day from 11.30am we’ll be treated to performances by a number of Irish Dance Schools of South Australia, Irish folk and Celtic music groups and the Adelaide Irish Pipe band along with great contemporary folk and rock bands like The Wild Rovers and The Shambolics rounding off a staggering 12 hours of solid entertainment. A great menu of food available, options for the kids and drinks at reasonable prices!
