YOUNG LIGHT
23:00
YOUNG LIGHT took a bare-bones approach to the ethereal indie-rock the two members are known for playing, but minimal is not a word you’d ever find yourself using to describe them. While taking cues from the forefathers of the genre as well as contemporaries like No Age and Beach House, the YL songs evoke the swirling ethereal pop leanings of the first APOF album; concentrated, undiluted, and simplified.
Michael Feerick of Amusement Parks On Fire (Filter, V2 Records), formed YOUNG LIGHT during a break in their activity and is joined by Micah Calabrese of Giant Drag on drums and keyboards. While Feerick was dividing time in-between England and Los Angeles (where Calabrese resides); they wrote songs whenever they could be in the same room together. They recorded the 'Great White Arc EP' in Chicago. After touring the UK in 2014 the duo are currently working on their sophomore EP release 'Blank Dice'.
light fm
21:00
Light FM is the brainchild of singer/songwriter/producer Josiah Mazzaschi. Born in the clutches of art school angst and bitter Chicago winters, Light FM began as a beacon of hope for Mazzaschi. A poppy bouquet of cheerful songs with meaningful yet dark lyrics, heavy on retro synths and grand orchestration, quickly gaining a name in the Chicago indie music scene as one of Chicago’s most promising new bands.
Mazzaschi moved to Los Angeles in the summer of 2005, releasing several LP's, touring extensively and becoming a sought-after LA producer in the process. The last few years has seen them tour the US with The Smashing Pumpkins, mainland Europe and the UK, and share the stage with The Jesus and Mary Chain, The National, Ra Ra Riot, and many more. The band will be showcasing songs from their latest EP 'Pointless', released in March.
The Past Haunts
22:00
Formed out of the demise of Boston indie/punk rock royalty, The Past Haunts came to be through mutual friends sharing common interests. Travis Shettel (guitarist, singer and ring-leader of the band Piebald) found his rhythm section in Ben (drums) and Heather (bass) Heywood, a married duo who front bands of their own (Summer Darling / QunQ and Kissing Cousins, respectively).
The power trio version of The Past Haunts has been busy; playing shows and writing. The new batch of songs are energized blasts of dark rock that still maintain pop sensibilities. It’s all here…Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you... THE PAST HAUNTS!
