RICH NINES is the latest DJ incarnation of original Toronto native and now Salt Spring resident Eric Shinn. DJing ragga jungle and drum and bass since 1997, techno since 2001, and Dubstep since 2005, he has been spinning 2015 in BC since as early as 2010— whatever and whenever the future sounds of now or current sounds of then are invoked. A classically-trained musician, nerd and writer since his teens, his sets are like curated thesis statements that catalyze the body to catch up to forward-thinking sonic-mindedness, and vice versa. No two sets are the same, always selected and mixed with respect to the specific context of event concept in harmony with venue time and place.
Now friend to many collectives yet remaining formally unaffiliated to any, RICH NINES is best known throughout coastal BC for DJing epic private gatherings alongside members of Connecting Circles, Bon.zai, Bass Dojo and Lighta! crews. On Salt Spring Island he has DJ'd the last four Earth Candy Hallowe'en events, opened for Adham Shaikh at Beaver Point Hall and for Chris B. at Equilibrium, performed B2B with Bron Tron at the annual Fancy Pants benefit at Mahon Hall, and at countless sublime house/cabin/farm gatherings with DJ and dancer friends throughout the region. Highlight gigs of 2015 so far have been playing with Gremlinz and DJ Madd on the 40Hz Sound System at Spectrum in Toronto in January, with Light Twerkerz vogue dancers at the Sad Mag / Blim "Cat Walk" fashion show in February at Make Gallery, Vancouver; and upcoming with Michael Red and Deadbeat at the Fox Theatre in Vancouver on April 17th. His surprise closing set at Luminosity Festival in Shawnigan Lake summer 2014 was a crowd favourite, and other than that he hasn't performed publicly on Vancouver Island since a benefit in October 2010 at Victoria Event Centre for the Ancient Forest Alliance, Dogwood Initiative and Sierra Legal— So it's high time to get caught up.

Don't be fooled by his crisp, dark beats, Arktic's not that cold. If you've ever caught that smooth, sultry voice on CFUV 101.9FM, then you know he warms the soul.
Representing the Urban Therapy crew in Victoria, he regularly appears in venues throughout Victoria, including Lucky Bar, The Mint, and Cenote Lounge. A former resident DJ with the Cloudsounds collective and a routine selector at the now defunct Hush Nightclub, Arktic has been a steady name in the Victoria bass community.
