A TON OF PRIZES AND SILENT AUCTION ITEMS. AND BELOW IS MY SISTERS STORY !!
My name is Amanda Newkirk, I am 29 years old and a single mom of two beautiful girls. I was diagnosed with a rare type of Type1 Diabetes 8 years ago, resulting in my pancreas being completely dead and leaving me to inject two separate types of insulin.
I have struggled with my disease as well as a heart disease called Supraventricular Tachycardia (SVT), where electric connections in the heart can cause the heart to beat up to 300 beats a minute. On Nov 10th, 2011 I had heart surgery and it was very successful.
Since surgery my diabetes has been very uncontrollable and has allowed me to
no longer work , my sugar levels are so risky that I could go into a coma at any given time, I am at serious risk of organ failure or death ( I'm at the 12 % mark of organ failure ). My kidneys are not functioning as they are suppose too , I am starting to go blind and have gotten tremors due to my sugars being uncontrolled and many other side effects that come and go on a regular basis. My hope one day is to get a pancreatic transplant and to no longer have to live with my disease.
Until that is possible I have few options to prolong my life temporarily.
I am currently on a short wait list for an invasive surgery that could help prolong my life and improve my sugar levels, a normal recovery after surgery is 6 weeks , but in my case 3 out of 5 doctors have told me that I may not recover , or recover well , I have been told that I will be hospitalized much longer then normal , and my recovery after will be no less than 10 weeks.
I am reaching out in hopes to raise enough money to have a insulin pump installed , I want to live for my daughters , and myself , and having this device installed would change my world completely , I would have the reassurance of knowing I can be here for my daughters and watch them grow and love life as much as I do.
The insulin pump is programmed to deliver insulin continuously through a tube to keep my levels balanced , it works with my body , instead of me finding a way to work with the insulin . I need 24 hour care with my type of diabetes the pump also regulates itself throughout the night , giving me the comfort of knowing that I wake up every morning alive.
A insulin pump cost $7000.00 , and is $350.00 a month for supply. I am unable to provide that amount of money for the device and supply at this time in my life . I would like to ask for help from anyone willing to donate anything to purchase the pump and a years worth of supplies, in hopes that soon I can get back to a normal lifestyle of working , playing and providing for my daughters.
